Off-Roading Near Zion National Park
You Can’t Ride in Zion. Here’s Where You Can.
The park is closed to off-road vehicles, and the highway corridor around it is private farmland. The nearest real terrain is about 30 minutes west.
Can you ride dirt bikes in Zion National Park?
No. Zion is a national park, and off-highway vehicles aren't permitted anywhere inside it — that includes dirt bikes, ATVs and side-by-sides.
The land right around the park doesn't help either. The corridor along SR-9 through Springdale, Rockville and Virgin is mostly private farmland and park boundary. Those dirt roads you can see from the highway are farm and utility access — not trails, and not open to ride.
Open terrain starts once you’re west of the canyon. Hurricane gets you there first — but that’s Sand Hollow country: deep sand and heavy side-by-side traffic. We’re a few exits further north in Leeds, on trails built for dirt bikes, where you’re not sharing the trail with a UTV. That’s not an accident. It’s why we’re here.
Getting here from Zion
About 30 minutes west of the park, right off I-15.
From Springdale it’s roughly 35 minutes. If you’re staying in Rockville or Virgin you’re already partway — closer to 25. You’ll follow SR-9 down out of the canyon, pick up I-15, and we’re just up the freeway in Leeds with parking on site.
Important: Land access and OHV rules change, and route availability varies with season and conditions. We ride under permit on the public land we're authorized for. Riders heading out on their own are responsible for confirming current access with the appropriate land agency.
