Dirt bike trails in St. George: a local's guide

St. George has a ridiculous amount of dirt. Red sand, purple clay hills, slickrock, a waterfall you can ride through. It's basically a dirt bike theme park with a golf problem.

There's one catch, and almost nobody tells you about it until you're standing next to a trailer. You can't ride a dirt bike on St. George streets. So every trail on this list is either a haul in a truck, or a ride straight from Leeds, about 15 minutes north.

Here's where we actually ride, and how to get there.

Road in Leeds, Utah with a 35 mph speed limit sign and a 20 mph ATV speed limit sign, red rock hills and Pine Valley Mountain behind.
Leeds posts speed limits for ATVs. That’s how you know you’re in the right town.

First, the street thing

Street riding is strictly off-limits in St. George and Washington City. Even a short hop from your Airbnb to the trailhead counts. Don't be that guy.

Leeds is different. It's an OHV-friendly town, so you can ride local streets to reach the trails. That's why our shop is here. You pick up your bike at 261 N Main St. and ride out of the parking lot. No truck, no straps, no trailer.

For everything farther out, plan on an open-bed pickup. Or let us handle it (more on that below).

Trails you can ride straight from Leeds

No hauling needed. These start from our parking lot:

Want something harder from the same lot? Backdoor to Babylon has jumps, berms and rock obstacles. Rock Crawl Playground is a slickrock spur off the Yant Flat road. Soft sand first, then wide rock slabs. Keep going, there are more bowls past where it looks like the trail ends.

Maps and onX links for all of these are in our trail guide.

It looks like another planet and it’s about as easy to get help on. This one’s remote.

Warner Valley: the Purple Hills

This is the one people search for, and it earns it. The Purple Hills are rolling lavender clay mounds that ride like a giant natural pump track. Add the fast, snaky grooves of the Dino Singletrack and it's pure flow.

It looks like another planet. It rides like a playground.

It's rated medium to intermediate, and you need to transport your bike to get there. If you'd rather skip the hauling and the guessing, our private Long Valley and Warner Valley ride meets at a trailhead near Sand Hollow in Hurricane. You get a Sur-Ron Ultra Bee, gear and a local who knows where to point it. It's a 3-hour ride for confident riders, and you book it by phone.

Long Valley, near Sand Hollow. It’s a haul to get there, and worth it.

Sand Hollow and Long Valley

Sand Hollow gets all the hype. It's the name everyone already knows. It's a haul from Leeds, so you'll need a truck, or call us about delivery.

Real talk: Babylon is Sand Hollow-style terrain you can ride right from our shop. Just saying.

Long Valley Recreation Area is the all-rounder. Open desert washes, steep hill climbs, red sand dunes and technical red-rock slabs. There's room for younger riders to play and enough gnar for hard-enduro people. Bring your own transport.

Toquerville Falls

Yes, it's a waterfall. Yes, you can ride through it.

The trail starts with a rough climb, then smooths out. At the end there's a cascading waterfall for riding through or wading in, with views of Kolob Canyon and Zion. You can reach it from the Babylon trails or park at the trailhead.

Feeling spicy? Toquerville Twister is the advanced way in or out: steep climbs, rocky sections and mesa edges. Take it easy near the falls.

Our Toquerville Falls to Babylon ride does both in one go. Technical rock in Toquerville, then sand washes, singletrack and slickrock through Babylon. It's a 3-hour rental plus shuttle, from $245, with a 4-person minimum and intermediate+ riders. Details are on our next-level rides page.

Before you go

Rentals start at $129 a bike. Pick your bike and check dates.

Would you rather not think about any of it? Our guided tours are the easy button. No experience needed, everyone gets their own bike, and the guide picks the trail.
